Noelle Thomas, a NICU nurse manager at St. Luke’s Health — The Woodlands Hospital, drove to the Austin milk bank in the winter storm to pick up donor human milk and take it to several hospitals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we, as a community, look at the health care system. Many have a renewed appreciation for the bravery and compassion of hospital staff, and nurses are deserving of a lot of praise as they face the brunt of the pandemic. They aren’t just care providers — they are heroes, lifelines, and most importantly, family to every patient they treat.
