Who We Are

Mothers’ Milk Bank Austin (MMBA) is a nonprofit founded in 1999 to save the lives of babies through the dispensing of prescribed, pasteurized donor breast milk. MMBA has many active programs, including a milk processing lab, a recipient family and hospital community, volunteers, milk donors and ambassadors, community education initiatives, and more.

The Milk Courier and Dispensation Assistant reports to the Milk Inventory Manager, and understands and
performs all functions related to milk inventory and milk dispensation. Additionally, this position has primary
milk courier responsibilities for the greater Austin area, providing both pickup and delivery services.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Incoming Raw Human Milk (HM) Inventory
● Understands and performs all tasks related to incoming raw milk and maintains a working knowledge
of the HMBANA and FDA regulatory standards that govern those processes
● Receives couriered or shipped milk to the milk bank, checking for quality, safety, and appropriate
identification of milk donations
● Works as a member of the inventory team to complete daily objectives
● Uses MMBA’s milk database (TMS) proficiently and accurately
● Sorts and logs the DHM into the milk database, reflecting accurate handling of deferral dates
● Labels and stores the DHM according to MMBA protocols
● Accurately identifies milk that fails to meet MMBA standards for quality and safety, working with the
Milk Donor Program as needed
● Efficiently assists in fulfilling supply requests to milk depots and donors as needed
● Maintains accurate records of logging sheets and milk depot drop off logs

Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM) Dispensation
● Understands and performs all tasks related to dispensing PDHM, maintaining the safety and quality
standards held by MMBA
● Maintains a working knowledge of the HMBANA and FDA regulatory standards that govern those
processes
● Uses the milk dispensation function in the milk bank management database proficiently, meeting daily
shipping deadlines
● Works with the milk inventory technician and recipient team to efficiently coordinate local deliveries of
PDHM or milk samples
● Packs coolers of milk according to milk bank protocols and shipping service requirements to ensure
safety and quality compliance
● Assists with the receipt and organization of all inventories related to milk dispensation
● Works with the recipient team to remedy inventory discrepancies related to milk dispensation

Milk Courier Duties

● Maintains a reliable vehicle with ample space for milk deliveries and pickups
● Works with the milk depot manager to efficiently coordinate local pickups of DHM from our milk depot
sites
● Transports milk safely to and from the milk bank following milk bank standards and maintains a
working knowledge of the regulatory standards that govern milk transport
● Maintains accurate documentation that meets the MMBA standards for documenting the transport of
donor human milk
● Represents MMBA and its mission, establishing respectful and friendly relationships with hospital and
Milk Depot site staff
● Assists inventory staff in maintaining outreach materials and donor swag at local Milk Depot Sites
● Conducts annual Milk Depot assessments offsite as needed

Misc.
● Promotes a positive, team-oriented atmosphere
● Participates in the recruitment and training of new employees, students and volunteers
● Serves as a visible spokesperson and advocate for MMBA’s mission and values in the Austin community
and beyond
● Communicates with an open and transparent style with staff, volunteers, and recipients
● Maintains Food Handler’s certification, HIPAA Certification, and Dry Ice Training Certification
● Consistently demonstrates MMBA’s six values through words and actions

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • The ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Valid Driver’s License & Insurance

Details:

Start date: As soon as possible

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Location: This job is in-person and occurs in our office at 5925 Dillard Circle, Austin TX 78752. Courier duties are primarily around Central Texas.

Salary Range: $20 per hour, starting

Benefits: Health insurance fully covered for employees, with dependent coverage available at employee’s expense, beginning the first of the month following employment. Vacation and sick time begin accruing immediately upon employment. 401K matching is available after six months of employment.
